Posted by Dave Homsey at Feb 26, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Excellent! Amazing! Great! Like Totally Awesome Dude! Exceptional! Superb! Wow! Incredible! Nice Job! Now take the first letter from each word above, and what do you get?!!!!!! All year we have been telling you about the wonderful puzzle of skills and experience you were all putting together and tonight it all came together! You did well in every aspect of the game, but above all, it was your teamwork that once again shined brightest. The final score was 12-10 and everyone played a part. The points were as follows (for every game summary we have listed things alphabetically, so tonight we are reversing it): Sarah – 4 Kate – 6 Abbi – 2 We hope you all have wonderful memories from a great season. We know we do... • We remember a team that lost its first two games by a combined score of 57-1, but never gave up. They practiced, they learned, and they played together as a team and went 4-2-1 over their last 7 games • We remember Sarah’s clutch shooting on offense and her tough defense both as a chaser and in the zone • We remember Olivia leading by example both on offense and defense and all of her blocked shots • We remember Mary’s ability to get open under the basket and also her rebounding the ball and then shooting and scoring • We remember Lindsay scoring during the halftime scrimmage at the varsity game, and we also remember her great smile • We remember all of Kenzie’s great passes, sense of humor and for blocking the final shot of the final game, preventing them from tying us. • We remember how Katie, game after game, sacrificed herself physically both on offense and defense, to give our team the best chance to win • We remember how tired both physically and mentally Kate was after her first game as point guard, but how she grew in confidence with each game in the position through hard work both at home and at practice • We remember Erin tying up her opponents for numerous jump balls • We remember Emma consoling her teammates during the Our Lady of Victory game as well as being a great shot • We remember Ellie stepping up to play any position we asked her to and doing it all very well • We remember Chelsea stepping out to set up the perimeter passing • We remember Abbi scoring our first point of the year with a great foul shot and also her fearless dribbling And most of all, • We remember how proud we are of all of you. Thank you for the fun, the hard work and the wonderful season, girls. The Coaches ___________________________

Uniform return

Posted by Dave Homsey at Feb 23, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Now that the season has ended, we need to return your uniforms to the league. Please wash it and place it in a plastic garbage bag with your name on it. This will make it easier for us to keep track of it until all uniforms have been turned in. You have 2 options for turning them in: 1. Bring them to the End of Year Banquet on March 4. 2. There is a tentative plan to have an end of year coaches meeting on March 8th (time to be determined) at the Labor Hall. You would be able to turn your uniform during the half-hour prior to the meeting at the Labor Hall. If neither one of these works for you, please call Coach Tim to set up arrangements to drop off the uniform at his house before March 8 (his phone number is 475-0714.) ___________________________

The BGBL End-of-Year Banquet is on Sunday, March 4 at 3:30 at the Middle School. It will start in the auditorium for awards and team presentations and then move to the cafeteria from 5 to 7pm for pizza, wings, salad, dessert and beverages. Players and their immediate family are welcome and we need to give the league a count of how many will be attending, so please let us know as soon as possible. Each player needs to bring a 2 liter bottle of soda or juice or drink boxes and take them to the cafeteria before the 3:30 presentations begin. I would like to thank all the parents who stepped up to volunteer one more time to help out at the Banquet, with a special thanks to Mrs. Cox and Mrs. Wright, who will be the helpers for the Banquet (I actually had to have a lottery to see who won - I will leave it up to you to decide which side won :-) We're hoping everyone will be able to come and celebrate a great season. ___________________________

Eagles rise to the occasion! East Greenbush will be one of the best teams we play all year and you rose to the challenge and played them tough all game. They came out on top, but only in the score, which ended up 14–10 (We won’t allow Coach Tim to do any math in this write-up. Besides it’s pretty obvious how close the game was). Once again it was an all-around effort. We saw great teamwork on the court on both defense and offense. As always on defense, you were aggressive, which lead to many steals, rebounds, blocked shots and jump-balls. Once again our chasers (Katie, Kenzie, Kate and Abbi) were challenged with guarding opponents with a little bit of a height advantage, but as always you did a great job. Our zone was impenetrable. We don’t remember a single basket that was made from inside the paint once our defense was established. On offense, we could really see the improvements in your passing. On several occasions we saw Chelsea step out as the #2 to set up the perimeter passing (you could see how effective it was because you moved the ball so quickly to Chelsea that she had room to drive which lead to all of her foul shots). Our rebounding also improved. A couple times, Olivia, Sarah, Mary and Ellie were getting rebound after rebound putting shots right back up a second time. Emma and Abbi were challenged with some of the most demanding dribbling we have seen this year and both did well (East Greenbush was not only good, but one of the fastest teams we have played all year, too). The points were as follows: Abbi – 2 Chelsea – 2 – Congratulations on your first baskets this year. Nice shooting!!!!!! Ellie – 2 Emma – 2 Olivia – 2 Even the score is illustrative of your teamwork. We had half the girls score and the scoring was even across the board (whoops, Coach Tim snuck in the math again, didn’t he). Keep up the good work. After our game on Sunday against Hoosic Valley and our two practices this coming week, we're going to have a lot of time off before our last game. Keep practicing at home and please review the “play book” to keep the rust off, so we are ready to soar on the 26th. The Coaches P.S. Since this was our last home game of the season, it's an appropriate time to say thank you to all our parent volunteers who helped out at the admission/concession/scorers tables all year. We literally couldn't have done it without you. ___________________________
