News and Announcements

I hope everybody had as great a time on Friday as I did!

It was great to get everybody together and not have to worry about whether we're running "Zebra", "24", "Gap", "Stack" or "Box 2". All we had to worry about was whether we were running "Cheese", "Pepperoni", "Sprite" or "Brownie". Why choose when you can have one of everything!

It was also great to see the families, who we often only see in passing before and after games and practices.

Then there was the game! It couldn't have gone any better, as far as I'm concerned. It looked like everybody had a lot of fun, the BCHS girls played awesomely, the Biddy C girls put on a fantastic exhibition of basketball at halftime, and they made sure that anybody who needed water got water in the 2nd half! Seriously, you girls played so well in the scrimmage, you made your coaches weep with joy.

I wish I had thought to keep track of who scored, because we made so many baskets in a very short time. But, you know who you are (especially you, Rachel :-). You should all be proud of yourselves. You played on the biggest court of the season, in front of the biggest crowd of the season, and you played your best.

You rock.

As Coach Kevin said after the game, in many ways this was your best game.

You did so many things very well, and once again showed how tough you are. We ran into a team that was very hungry for a win. St. Augustine played very aggressive defense, they made a lot of good passes, and their shots were falling. We just have to tip our cap to them (if we were wearing caps.) We'll get our chance at them again on 2/9, and we'll be ready.

Both teams played hard and ended up with some bruises... that's basketball. You showed what you are made of when you didn't back down at all. You kept fighting.

See if this sounds familiar. At halftime, the score was 10-2. That means we outscored them 12-8 in the second half. If that game was 2 minutes longer, I have no doubt we would've caught them.

How 'bout some stats?

Final score: St. Augustine 18, Bethlehem 14
Points:
Austen - 2
Emma - 2
Lindsay - 2
Kate - 2
Lily - 6

Rebound leaders: Rachel, Sarah, Grace, Alex - 2
Steals leader: Jordan - 2

Losing is never as much fun as winning, but you usually learn more about yourself in a loss. I think this game taught us a lot of good things.

• Practice schedule for 2/4-2/8

Here's our schedule for this week:

• Thursday, 2/7 - 7:30-9pm - High School Upper Gym

Next games:
Sunday, 2/10 at Hebrew Academy in Colonie at 9:45am
__________

26-4, 23-8.

Those scores may not look very different, but scores don't tell the whole story. This game tonight proves that.

The first time we played St. Jude, we lost 26-4, and it felt like that. Like we didn't really challenge them.

This time, the game FELT competitive. Anybody watching this game could see how much better we played. You challenged St. Jude tonight. They may not lose a game this season, but they know Bethlehem wasn't scared. Bethlehem wasn't intimidated. Bethlehem gave it everything they had, right until the end of the game. There's nothing more I can ask of you.

You had one practice to learn our "Gap" offense, so, of course we need to work on it more. But we saw some really good things happening. Girls were thinking out here, moving to open spaces and making nice passes. On defense, you're doing so much better you're doing at figuring out who you're guarding on your own? St. Jude substituted more than any other team we played, which made it hard, but you're getting good at looking around and finding someone to cover.

And once again, you played them tough in the 2nd half. The 2nd half score was only 10-6.

How 'bout some stats?

Final score: St. Jude 23, Bethlehem 8
Points:
Emma - 2
Lily - 2
Grace - 4

Rebound leader: Emma - 4
Steals leader: Sarah - 2
