Open Gym Time in September

Posted by Will vonWedel at Sep 4, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

BGBC will once again provide "open" gym nights to all current and new players.  Last year, we held two open nights, but with it's popularity we have added a 3rd night.

If your daughter is looking to shake off rust from the summer to get ready for tryouts, this is a great opportunity to take advantage of. Appropriate age level games (5x5, 3x3, half-court, full-court, etc) will be created based on turnout.

Open Gym Dates/Times

  • Friday, September 9th, 6-8pm, Middle School Lower Gym
  • Friday, September 16th, 6-8pm, Middle School Lower Gym
  • Monday, September 19th, 6-8pm, Middle School Lower Gym

Coach Hurley was previously voted “coach of the year” by the Times Union and Channel 13 while at Bishop Maginn and this year takes over coaching duties at Troy High. Coach Grasso has worked on speed and agility training with top local athletes such as Talor Battle (Bishop Maginn/Penn St) and Julie McBride (Catholic Central/Syracuse/Europe). About BGBC

Posted by Will vonWedel at Jun 28, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
  • BGBC is a competitive travel program that forms teams for girls in grades 3rd thru 8th who reside within the Bethlehem Central School District.

  • BGBC currently does not have a rec or "house" program.

  • Tryouts are necessary to ensure players are placed at their appropriate skill level to promote positive experiences and growth. No previous experience is necessary. Players who do not attend any tryout sessions are not eligible to be placed ahead of other players in their same grade. Exception may apply to injured players or players returning from a team at the highest level that grade is eligible for.
  • 4th through 8th grade teams are created thru the tryout process. Through these tryouts, two teams (A & B) are formed at the Biddy (5th/6th grade) and Junior (7th/8th grade) levels, which compete in the Capital District Girls Basketball League. Teams are formed based on skill-level regardless of grade within that level. Players are evaluated by club board members and other knowledgeable basketball people. Evaluators whom also have a player participating are not allowed to particpate during there players tryout sessions. Tryouts are also closed to parents/family members.
  • We try to place all players on a team, and after tryouts we will create additional teams at these levels based on player availability, skill level, sufficient gym time, and availability of coaches. These teams participate in the Troy CYO league.
  • The number of teams created at the 3rd and 4th grade level will be based on sign-ups.
  • Generally teams will have 12 players, but circumstances such as overall player skill-level or number of players within each age group.
  • Travel season is from October thru late Feb/early March. 3rd & 4th grade teams may start a little later and end a little earlier.
  • During the season the schedule is generally two (2) practices up to 90 minutes each and one (1) game per/week. There will be some weekends a game on both Sat and Sun.
  • Each team is presented with opportunities to play in tournaments. Usually over holiday or vacation breaks.
  • Parents/Families are expected to volunteer for concession/admission during home game nights. Each family generally is asked to cover 2-3 times per/season. Factors such as team size will determine the final requirements.
Note: Each family must provide the club with a volunteer deposit that will only be cashed should they not meet the afore mentioned requirements.
  • The club provides game uniforms, however deposits are required in the event they are lost/damaged. Uniform deposit checks will not be cashed if uniforms are returned cleaned and in normal wear and tear condition at the completion of the season.
  • BGBC also offers additional playing opportunities through AAU, summer leagues and camps. Information related to this is may be posted on this site, through our social media outlet (Facebook) or via email throughout the year.

There are many opportunities throughout the Capital District and surrounding areas to continue developing your basketball skills throughout the Summer and off-season.

Below are options available through camps and group or individual workout sessions.
